The World Ploughing Contest is a prestigious global event that draws competitors from across the globe, each demonstrating their mastery in the art of ploughing. This year’s contest in Estonia was particularly challenging, with competitors facing unpredictable weather conditions and tough terrain. However, Eamonn Tracey and Jer Coakley rose to the occasion, showcasing the best of Irish ploughing talent and securing victory in their respective categories, which also meant that Ireland have now brought home the gold in both conventional and reversible categories, 3 years in a row!
Eamonn Tracey: A Veteran Champion
Eamonn Tracey, a seasoned ploughman from Carlow, is no stranger to the winner’s podium. With multiple national and international titles under his belt, Eamonn once again demonstrated his unrivaled expertise. His attention to detail, precision, and deep understanding of the land were evident throughout the competition, earning him the top spot in the Conventional Ploughing category.
Jer Coakley: A Rising Star
Jer Coakley, hailing from Cork, has rapidly made a name for himself in the ploughing world. Competing in the Reversible Ploughing category, Jer showcased incredible skill and determination, overcoming stiff competition to claim first place. His performance in Estonia solidifies his reputation as one of the leading figures in the sport and a true ambassador for Irish ploughing.
A Special Mention for the Coach and Training Team
We would also like to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of Michael Roche from Wexford, who coached the Republic of Ireland team this year. Under his guidance, the team spent two weeks training in Estonia ahead of the championships, preparing for the challenges ahead. Michael’s expertise and leadership were instrumental in the team's success. The hard work and preparation clearly paid off, and we are proud to have been part of this journey alongside such a talented coach and team.
