Well known New Holland dealer Armstrong Machinery, based at The Five Roads, Lusk, Co. Dublin have recently been appointed Kverneland and Vicon dealers for the North Dublin. To help promote this exciting new agreement both parties combined to host a major working day of Kverneland and Vicon machinery on the farm of David Rodgers, Ballyboughal, Co. Dublin on Wednesday 13th March 2013.

Despite heavy snow a number of days beforehand the ground proved perfect for working on this large arable and vegetable farm. In total there were 10 Kverneland machines being used, all pulled by New Holland tractors which proved quite a sight in the mammoth 80 acre block which was provided for the day.

The Kverneland CLE and McConnel Discaerator provided deep leg cultivation ahead of the 3 reversible ploughs covered significant ground, with 19 furrows working in total. As the field was destined for potatoes the ploughing depth was almost 12 inches but the Kverneland ES, EG and PB models coped admirably. The CLC folding cultivator proved a major hit among customers with many visitors praising the machines ability to work at depth with the tines providing useful cutting action. Two power harrows were used to break down the heavy soil which is prevalent in this area including a 6M F35 folding model and a 3m NGS which was fitted to an iDrill Pro with CX Ultra Coulters which received a large amount of attention throughout the day, especially with the resurgence of power harrow combinations for crop establishment. To complete the line-up there was a 3m Qualidisc fitted with an actipack roller which worked very well despite encountering the odd sticky patch.

On the Vicon front we demonstrated the GEOSPREAD system which is receiving a large amount of interest since its introduction as farmers seek more accurate and efficient fertiliser spreading.

Armstrongs and Kverneland Ireland would like to thank the Rodgers family for providing the site as well as local farmers who supplied tractors and operated machines on the day.
