Colm Fingleton runs a nice Tillage Farm close to Stradbally in Co Laoise. On a cold February morning Colm agreed to fit on his Vicon RO–XL Rota Flow Fertiliser Spreader and discuss the reasons he purchased it, in 2010.“It’s my second Vicon Spreader “ said Colm, “The one we traded in after ten years looked almost as good as this one”“I like the finish on the Vicon” he commented, “spreaders need to be well painted to keep the fertiliser from attacking the steelwork.” “We wash down the machine after every application and store all the machinery indoors.”“What do you find most appealing about this machine? “ I asked. “It’s a simple machine” said Colm. “It’s easy to adjust and once adjusted it stays set. We use 21 Meter Tramlines and find the Vicon to be very accurate. The side shut off device works well too”.“I particularly like the aluminium extensions—they, like the machine, are simple to fit and look the part”We bought the Vicon from Perry’s in Athy and as you can see the tractors and most of the machinery come from there as well. Perry’s are close—give me a good back up and our dealings go back to my father’s and John Perry’s early days.“Whilst we sow around 350 acres per year, manpower is a premium. I’m involved in another enterprise so I need to plan well. My father helps in the busy times and I take on additional staff at harvest. Otherwise I’m a one man show. My machinery must be ready and serviceable at all times-so I try to pick the right one first time!”
